CITIZEN PARTICIPATION

KDI is dedicated to empowering Nigerian citizens as active architects of their democracy by fostering inclusive participation, amplifying marginalized voices, and leveraging innovative tools to build a culture of informed, equitable, and accountable electoral engagement.

Tagline: "Empowering Voices, Building Democracy – One Informed Vote at a Time."

Program Overview

KDI’s Citizens Engagement and Participation Program strengthens Nigeria’s electoral democracy through a transformative five-pillar approach. Rooted in a decade of expertise, we. collaborate with election management bodies, civil society, and communities to dismantle barriers to participation and cultivate trust in democratic processes. Our initiatives prioritize voter education through grassroots engagements and digital campaigns, inclusivity for women, youth, and persons with disabilities, and technologydriven solutions like voter information apps (Naijaelections) and platforms to bridge access gaps. We champion transparency by training citizen observers and advocating for accountability, while fostering sustainable partnerships with local leaders, influencers, and institutions to embed civic engagement into Nigeria’s cultural fabric. By equipping citizens with knowledge, tools, and platforms, KDI ensures every voice shapes governance, paving the way for peaceful, credible elections and a democracy that truly reflects the will of the people.

Naija Elections

This project is centered on the development of a generative AI tool aimed at transforming how Nigerian citizens, particularly youth, access and engage with information about the country’s election ecosystem. At its core, the initiative seeks to address the persistent electoral information gap by creating a user-friendly platform that simplifies complex electoral legal frameworks and delivers bite-sized, easily digestible information.

Bridging The Gap

The project with support from the International Republican Institute (IRI) through the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) aims to promote political inclusion for marginalized groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, within Nigeria's political landscape. By fostering strategic partnerships with political parties and enhancing the capacities of these groups through targeted training and advocacy, the project seeks to empower underrepresented voices and ensure their active participation in political processes.
